The storyteller David visits the HBG; 06.03.2026

Dear readers,

we want to tell you about our day with the storyteller David. David is an English storyteller who tells stories in English from all around the world. His stories are easy to understand because he tells them with his hands and his facial expression. His texts are suitable to the different ages of the students. He tells the stories in grades 5 to 7. They are useful for our studies to learn more English, and with more fun!

David explained the story in five steps: First, he simply told us the story. Then, he told us the story again and we acted it out. As the third step, we had to re-tell the story with our hands and facial expression, but without speaking. Next, we told the story completely in English. As the last step, we could tell the story to our family and friends. It was a lot of fun!  by Alina, Amelie and Paulina (6.2)

One of the stories David told us was about a man called Nasrudin and his neighbour. He wanted to borrow the neighbour’s big pan because he wanted to cook for his family and friends. When Nasrudin brought back the big pan, there was a small pan inside it. “I have good news for you”, said Nasrudin, “your big pan had a baby!” The neighbour was confused, but happy.

Some days later, Nasrudin wanted to borrow the big pan again. The neighbour gave it to him, but Nasrudin didn’t bring it back the next day. The neighbour waited and waited. In the end he went to Nasrudin’s house to get his pan back. Nasrudin answered the door and said: “I have bad news for you, neighbour. Your big pan has died.” The neighbour said: “But a pan can’t die!” Nasrudin just answered: “If a pan can have a baby, a pan can also die.” And then he closed the door.
